Old Coventry postcards

I was wandering through Warwick today and found these postcards in that 'Multi' antique shop with small shops in one. I've seen this image before but not with the pub on the right hand side whatever its name is? This is the mill/smithy? by the Coat of Arms bridge. This scene is now ruined by street furniture and hideous galvanised railings that could at least have been painted dark green in my opinion.

Nice one Catshed - that last one of Coats of Arms bridge is a cracker - not seen that one before. That looks almost pre-Memorial park when the land was simply Styvechale Common. I'm sure I'll be corrected as has been discussed here before but I think I'm right in saying the Coat of Arms on the bridge was of the landowner for agreeing to let the train line run across his land.

Postcard of Maudslay engine shop

Walked under the bridge everyday on my way to Stivichall school, we used to find it quite frightening on dark evenings in Winter, your Mum didn't meet you from school in the 50s! There was a small cottage among the trees, set back from the path alongside the railway line. We thought the lady who lived there was a witch, we were quite unkind to her as children can be. I don't remember the house next to the arches being a mill, think it was a Smithy. I went to school with the boy who lived at the farm on the opposite side of the road. The coat of arms on the bridge spells the name Stivichall the same as the school, this is different to the district, Styvechale - anyone know why the difference?

Its funny how us Historic people get everywhere these days. Some of the old postcards seen on this thread have ended up on YouTube, with a title and credits at the end. A certain Rob Orland had something to do with this I think. Not sure what part he played, but the person singing the song sounds so familiar. Ha ha ha Around Coventry

I found 3 packets of old postcards when I was sorting out the loft after my husband passed away. These were in with a box of Scouting memorabilia which I gave to the archives people at Rough Close. I think that he must have found them when the old Baden Powell House was being cleared and knocked down. The packets say that there was 6 postcards in each and cost 2 shillings. so - I have had a go at showing them to you although some may already be on here. I might need admins help to tidy them up a bit and maybe alter the size as I wasn't too sure which size to select.

I love that view of Bayley Lane (I think) showing the county court and the Cathedral. This is the sort of stuff that makes cities exciting, and always has. A street view that offers a landmark building at the end. What a shame they didn't try to recreate this street when they renovated the area, instead leaving it a half-baked bunch of blank walls and service areas!

They are great, especially the first and last ones. Really reiterates to me why West Orchards, when it reaches the end of its useful life (which arguably the retail bit already has) needs to be demolished and turned into a park/square to make the most of these gorgeous buildings. I also thought one looked like a photo posted on here a while ago about a street behind HT, but the brickwork was different so it wasn't the same place.
