I think it's a real shame the council turned what is supposed to be a conservation area into a bunch of mounds and got rid of that distinctive circular path (and the other original paths). Apart from everything else they did to it.

It's much better there now they've got rid of the flyover.

Hi Flapdoodle. With reference to Greyfriars Green, when I left school in 1971 I used to work for the City Council, maintaining Greyfriars Green by mowing the grass and looking after the flower borders, as well as I planted many trees and shrubs. But I'm sorry to say, it will never be the same as when I left Coventry and returned in 1997 I was disgusted to see that it all had been changed and it still remains the same. I'm not a happy chappie, all of my hard work GONE and I think it's an eyesore Sad

Still no sign of "Trigger" the horse. It was originally intended to be replaced (after some repair work) on Greyfriars Green but the Council then claimed that the cost of "full repair and refurbishment" prohibited it from being replaced "outside"!! The original artist and creator has sadly passed away but his family had a specialists opinion which countered the Councils view (now there's a surprise) who said it could be fully restored for a fraction of the price the Council had quoted AND replaced back outside. I assume it currently lies in storage. The subject was taken up quite vigorously by Shane O'Connor on BBC-CW but now that he is left I can't see the current incumbents of the breakfast show bothering with the topic. Angry Note: The topic of Trigger was originally aired in the Friargate thread, but as it's new location was planned to be Greyfriars Green, I've added it here.

I mentioned it Kaga, we demolished it, can't remember the date though. That's where we found an incendiary bomb down a storm drain.

I seem to remember that there was a weather proof lectern there with a book and that the page was turned every day. Does anyone else remember this and would the book have been a bible?
I think this photo I took in 1976 shows the bible in front of Sir Thomas White's statue Thumbs up
