Since buying Coventry stuff at auction is an essential way to collect, Rob thought that it deserves a new topic. Due to the ephemeral nature of auction items, this topic can be regularly pruned, although certain experiences by members may be instructive to future buyers.

I'm adding this temporarily. An auction lot has come up online for a box full of files on Coventry pubs. I'm not sure that there is anything in it that surpasses the resources here but it clearly has clippings from newspapers, so if you have no access to them online, it might be of interest. The map looked interesting but on close inspection it is rather oddly drawn and contains some spelling mistakes. Warwick Auctions located in Coventry. Be aware that there are fees on top of what you bid (up to a third more, depending upon how you bid) and that you have to arrange to collect the items promptly after winning (usually within a week but this will be complicated further by Christmas and the New Year).

I was intrigued by this so attended the online auction, unfortunately missed watching this specific item live but was surprised it went for the bargain bid of £12. Am curious to know who won it, they would have to collect the boxes by Friday. It was a strange experience watching the bids come in and hearing the disembodied voice of the auctioneer and his gavel coming down, more like the crack of a whip. It sounded as though the saleroom was very small. Fascinating to see how some items achieved high prices while others attracted no bids at all but I guess that's the nature of all auctions.

I agree rocksolid. I've bid on a few things over the internet. I've won some and lost some but I find the process very stressful. The sum things go for is very random. Two of the pictures I lost out on ended up on Ebay and I got them for less than I originally bid. It simplified the postage very much.

I looked on to Warwick Auctions site and was amazed to see the variety of articles they had up for sale. I suspect that they are a company who clear out houses judging by the sort of things on sale. Have I got stuff for them!

Just a thought. This is exactly the sort of post - mine- that careers right away from the main topic. Sorry, but maybe we could have an 'Old Junk' or 'Sentimental Junk' topic.

Don't worry Linda, I'll move it somewhere suitable. Thumbs up Even if it's to Friendly Chat temporarily.
