Scrutiny,
Notice the width of the street - they took it back at least two shops width on that left hand side after the bombing, but I believe it had wooden shops for a time until the temp shops that stood for years.

And is that one of the incredibly rare Austin Atlantics under the clock? Most of them went to the US market. I remember as a very small boy sitting in the back seat with my parents, being driven to Banbury (I think it was) - with the roof down - by the proud new owner and his wife. He was a US airman and had arranged to take delivery while in England and then ship it to the USA when he was due to go home. Beautiful car! Question True Blue Coventry Kid

But add an 's' and make it Broadgates and you had a college in Oxford in the 17th century. |

With the announcement of another winter like 1983 perhaps this could be Broadgate, despite changes.

I love it, I love it, Don't care what Broadgate looks like, so many memories for me. Snow means Christmas - even better still.

Its only Monday but I'm already claiming this weeks 'Find of the week'. OK credit should actually go to Cliff Berwick from the True Cov FB page but....
As per Anne's newspaper clipping #389 and the mentions of the 'new' Prudential building that never quite opened before being destroyed - we've finally found an image of it almost complete. This is the only ground level photo of the mock Tudor facade that I have ever seen. It must be a very late 1940 photo and also shows some terrific detail of old Broadgate before destruction hit. I think it's been taken from a bedroom window from The Kings Head Hotel. Enjoy in all its XL magnificence!

NeilsYard,
You've lost me again, which building almost complete? I would have placed it as the large building where the tram/bus meet, bottom of the churchyard. I would also place it a tad before the raid. My picture is quite blurred. |

Good picture Neil. This is the only shot I've ever seen from that side.
Kaga, yes, it's the new mock Tudor building on the corner of Broadgate and the Trinity grave yard. The steelwork from it was installed at some point in 1939.

It's this one Kaga that Anne found.
It was supposed to be their new Coventry office but was barely completed when bombed.
It was on the corner of the old Broadgate buildings post Butcher Row clearance. By where you walked into Spicerstoke/Derby Lane. The idea was to frame Holy Trinity, to mirror it was the Timothy Whites mock Tudor one on the other side.
