Aerial views of Coventry

I remember the Gallery Mick, also having to go down some steps as you entered as if underground. As a schoolgirl was asked once what I was doing in there and rather impertinently replied 'what do you think' . Did not think at the time it would ever become public conveniences.

A pic of the BTH Alma street, I never realised that the end I looked at was four storeys high. The pic came from= Viewfinder-English Heritage. NMR.

That's a good shot of Alma Street, scrutiny, and the BTH factory that caused so much trouble being on the wrong side! It's helped to see the 'street level' view of the factory in relation to the aerial shot.

On the picture of the BTH and Alma Street, would anyone know what the numbering of the houses was. How far down would number 32 be? Any ideas?

As far as I can tell from planning records No 32 was close to the corner with Hood Street

Many thanks for that. In the 90s the residents turned the top shop into a gym!!

You must have the wrong address as Nos 24-36 were destroyed in the war and used as a car park after the war. There's a single storey nursery on the site now.

Sorry I should have been more explicit ... I meant the 1890s not the 1990s!!

Not certain of the date on this one but gives a good impression of what was lost and cleared along Earl St/Jordan Well and the buildings that survived on Little Park Street.

Those pictures are better viewed at the Britain from Above site in my opinion where you can register and zoom-in to your heart's content.

I like the picture showing the old Cathedral and down in the corner you can see houses and parked cars - could have made as pleasant 'Cathedral Close' down there.

We tend to think in terms of how much destruction there was, on that November night, but it is quite remarkable how many buildings were left untouched.
