In the park in Brandfield road/Brownshill Green road behind Brownshill Court bungalows are some traces in the grass, one is a large rectangle and the other looks like part of an oval track of some kind. Does any one remember what they were? |

Mick ,
I remember them but did not realise what the buildings were. At that time the buildings were occupied by Wyleys who were pharmaceutical suppliers, this was in the late 60s. How they had changed from the original I wouldnt know. The site was cleared some years ago but what stands there now I have no idea. |

I live opposite, there are still the odd posts and footings around. The main site was taken up with a slate company called Keystone. They have since been purchased by Kinorigo. Mick Strong

If you look at this site, there is mention of a hostel being built.

Thanks Mick. Well done Heathite, pipped me to it
It's too far out of town for me to know if there are aerial photos and as there is no industrial site nearby, there might not be any. I'm not 100% sure if all of the buildings are gone. Many of the houses are the same. |

Also found this, that says it was the pre Canley Club site in Marler Road in among the steel houses. I know that the original club were huts.
I think Heathite's option is more likely, It would have been behind what is now the row of shops, Half Sovereign pub, and the old Welfare Centre. There are a few blocks of flats built there now, and Thomas Sharp Street extends all the way to meet Wolfe Road Mick Strong

Well found MR.
murrjam, If you're not familiar with Britain From Above that Midland Red linked to, if you get a log in, you can zoom into the images to get a better look. The site is perfectly legit and doesn't send spam or ask for anything other than an email and a password. |

Hi Helen, yes all of those buildings have gone. As a kid I watched Thomas Sharp Street being developed. At the Wolfe Road end, there are 10/12 steel houses on each side of the road. The development started from Mitchell Avenue and worked its way down to the steel houses. There are numerous cul-de-sacs with houses and 4 storey blocks of flats. The square building near the open ground is the old day nursery (all redeveloped now).
Also, don't forget there were hostels around the corner in Duggins Lane, built for the car workers.Mick Strong
