I recall from my early years that there was a hostel on Brownshill Green Road, where Brownshill Court appears to have been built, by Brandfield Road Does anyone recall it and know what exactly it was?

Here is a link Midland Red of what the hostel was, it was for the miners, if you type in "History of Copthorne School" it has old photos on the site of it run by Paul Buttle in Cumbria.

You're welcome, if I know I like to share, I used to go to Copthorne School and I didn't know about it either, until I came across Paul Buttle's site, he does update by email of the history of the school, you will find the photos interesting Smile

There was also a hostel off Holyfast Road, opposite the Bablake Playing Fields. It was occupied well into the 1950s. In the same area (might even have been in the old hostel buildings) was an offshoot of the Technical College. My future wife went there in the early 1960s for typing/shorthand classes in the evenings.

Hi all, Hi Tony, Wave The hostel was wooden huts at the entrance to what is now Everdon Rd. estate. I have an old photo somewhere, which I will look out.

There was a hostel in Clifford Bridge Rd and another in Chase Ave, Willenhall, parts of that are still there, I think. Stirring what few brain cells I have left I think that there may have been a hostel where the Elverden Rd estate now is. During the war that area was known as The Dumps because there was a munitions dump there. Tomorrow I will check that with my sister who is even older than me. Les
