Mmmm... interesting - that Real Ale Rambles website linked above has 3 photos on the page that have also been used on our own forum ! I don't recall them asking any of us for permission, especially as one of the photos is definitely one of Dreamtime's personal photos. (And if you right-click on that photo and look at "Properties", you'll see it's still labelled as if it's been uploaded by our Adrian!)
I'm the webmaster for Real Ale Rambles. If you look earlier in this thread you will see that this forum and it's contributing members are freely acknowledged and thanked and that people providing photos are credited whenever possible (I do me best tha' knows). RAR is not a commercial site, we make no profits from it, we do it for the love of Coventry and it's rapidly disappearing pubs and buildings. We think the website is unique and will be the definitive guide to pubs and beer houses long after we've all supped our last pint. Having it all in one place for posterity has got to be a good thing hasn't it?
If we have offended anyone or missed a creditation we humbly apologise, but here are a couple of points of interest;
I have personally been in correspondence with 'Dreamtime' through this very boutique who has given some valuable information about the Navigation and her parents, which is great, and that's the whole idea. Please give us as much as you like, anecdotes especially welcome.
The photos on RAR of the Navigation were taken/given to us recently by Paul Kennelly who used to play there regularly in 1968/69 as part of a band called 'Peppermint Kreem' and he has a wealth of photos from that time including shots after the fire all those years later. I will gladly forward any requests to Paul for copies from his scrapbook.
I'm crawling this thread as I write to further complete our fantastic website. Our next venture along the same lines will be a record of all the brewers. I hope you'll take the time to have a look at RAR some rainy afternoon and maybe contribute something. Cheers...

I can't help wondering why they would name a public house The Admiral Lord Rodney in Coventry.
Is there any connection at all ?
I think it was a common thing back in the day for sailors to take on a pub when they retired. they would often name their pubs after their commanding officers by way of tribute |

So glad to see that the Town Wall Tavern is still with us though the car park round it when I knew it has now disappeared and the landscape changed so much. But the Tavern is still there!! It used to be fun sitting in there with Roman soldiers or cavaliers or whoever was taking a break from their role in the Belgrade that day

Hi all
During the eighties & early nineties, Mrs or Ms Wheatly was the landlady of the Stag & Pheasant pub in Lockhurst Lane Foleshill. Her lunches & dinners I consider ranked among the best in Coventry. So much so, that when I knew that I would be working in Foleshill all week, & if Pam was away, I often bought a weekly dinner ticket. £15 for a dinner, drink & pudding for five days or I think £20 for seven. Yummy. |

Hi Morgana,
What an interesting link. Not one of my nights there, it does look like as if that was a little later into the 60's. So many bands did the rounds of the pubs in those days who went on to greater fame. The big room, as we used to call it looks so familiar. Thanks for that.

Hi love-thy-label, and welcome to our forum
We currently seem to have only one photo of the outside of The Bulls Head pub, and you will find that here in the Coventry Pubs topic. If you type "Bulls Head" into the search box at the top, you will get lots of references listed in a whole range of topics
Mods note: this topic may be moved to the Coventry Pubs thread in due course |
