Thanks for asking! Only yesterday I took a quick snap of the new Coventry Cross to show its progress. As we can see, it's very nearly complete, and they're beginning to reveal the top section piece by piece (a couple of weeks ago just the very top was sticking out). I'm assuming that they're currently working on the bottom part, which I believe will have coloured glass in some of the arcades, through which we'll see a lit up statue of King Henry VI.

Why would they do away with the steps which are part of the architecture to set it off? I am sure I read they will do. |

There will have to be something, just to level the base off if nothing else. So far the reality looks better than the original impressions given... at one point we doubted that it would survive at all. |

I haven't heard any news yet, but I hope there will be one. As with so many things these days, we'll probably see something announced on Facebook first, before any official sources!
I agree with what you all say about the steps, too. Currently it looks like it will just spring straight out of the ground, which makes no sense. With all the difficult work being in the design and creation of all the fancy bits, it defies common sense that such a simple thing as some steps for it to stand on have been overlooked. |

Councillor Jim O'Boyle said the statue of Henry VI would go behind panels in the new Cross
A 3D-printed statue of Henry VI will be erected in Coventry as part of an £800,000 project in the city centre.
The city council said it would be an exact replica of a statue made in the 1500s, which is now housed in the Herbert Art Gallery.
It will stand close to a 1976 replica of the Coventry Cross which is being returned to the city centre.
Work to rebuild the 57-foot cross in its new location is expected to be finished in the spring.
The cross was removed four years ago and the replacement will stand close to Primark and opposite the Holy Trinity Church, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

Work is under way to return the Coventry Cross to the city centre
Labour Coventry City councillor Jim O'Boyle said he had the idea to install a statue of Henry VI when he was told about the original in the Herbert, but historians told him the original was too old and fragile.
So instead, Mr O'Boyle said he asked Coventry firm HPL to have a copy made.
"It's the best of the old and the best of the new, I am really proud of that," he said.

Thanks Anne and Neil. It looks a lot more tasteful than the artist's impression. |

Yes, it looks very nice. I only hope the glass is extra thick in order to stand the ravages of time.
I have a funny feeling about the smiling people in the photograph as nice as it is. |
