I can't specifically answer your questions, Debby, but it may be the case that deaths were registered in the parish of St Michael and the burials were off-site, ie London Road cemetery (I have ancestors whose obituary followed this course) Thumbs up

I have found that to be the case on some occasions, but I have a particular burial record of someone in Feb 1841 in St Michael's, which is what led me to ask the question. I assume that at this sort of time there were a number of burials in what would have been the churchyard, but after WWII especially the area has been redeveloped with the new cathedral etc and I wondered if the remains of deceased still lie there or have been moved. I came across the same thing at St Peter's Church, Charles Street where my great great great grandmother was buried. Apparantly, the remains were exhumed from the churchyard and reinterred in Holy Trinity when the conversion was carried out Roll eyes

Hi Debbyh, Hi all Wave Just a help point, to emphasize a search facility on our site. At the top left, under the 'Topic index' select box, you can enter any word or group of words & see if they crop up anywhere, either in titles or the general script. The cathedral figures in many conversations going back years, although I cannot recall this particular topic question. Wave

If only they would rebuild the Old Cathedral - then we would have a view like this:

I like the picture but I never knock the Bible because no one knows? And to tinker with it? I certainly do not like the look of those black clouds looming overhead Oh my

Alfred Herbert wanted to restore it: LINK In Gibson's original plans for Coventry, the ruin was going to be demolished. I think Herbert may well have had a point. France and Germany many damaged buildings, and in some cases completely reconstructed others, and even until recently continued to do so. Meanwhile places like Coventry are littered with decades of failed ideas.

Sounds like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other on that issue. I suppose as it stands the citizens of Coventry are quite happy to have what is left of the cathedral and I for one hope they continue to restore what is left FOR future generations. Wave Even as it stands now it retains a beauty of its own.
