Came across this lovely picture of St John's Church c1822 in a book about an exhibition in 1992 of Edward Rudge and other art in Coventry. Interesting view of the buildings round it.

Prof, that 3D thing is strangely realistic but plays havoc when I'm trying to look clearly at something.
I may have asked this but does anyone know how tall the tower or the roof are? Question |

The book 'Bell's Cathedral Churches - Coventry' may tell you, it is available on-line.

I found a useful blog under Warwickshire Churches, Helen, for St John's but although it mentions height it annoyingly does not give it. But is has nice photos and interesting text - link |

Here is a photo of the eponymous dedication to St. John Baptist in an interior window!

Here, though rather small, is the niche statue of St John the Baptist on the left of the porch.

Thanks Prof. I have the measurements of the other 3 but I might have to take a tape measure to part of St John's and scale the rest of it. It's a point of some annoyance that it's not easy to find measurements for some of the iconic buildings. |

I think you are doing a wonderful job Helen. Wish you all success! At least Christ Church is no problem! |

One website does state that the tower is 70ft (21m) high and each clock face has a diameter of 7 |

St John's was reconsecrated and pressed into service on 24th June 1734, mainly due to the increasing population of Coventry. This date is significant as it's actually St John's Day, previously St Michael's controlled this parish. But there's a secret hidden in the first register - the church was in such a state of ruin no services could be taken there. Although the register begins in June 1734 the first baptism in the actual church was performed (page 3) on 14th January 1735, Joseph, the son of Joseph/Jane "Gibbins". The first banns published (page 6) 31st January 1737, William "Siberson" to Mary Barton and the first burial as far away as (page 29) 25th March 1749, Richard Varne. |
