Great stuff Tony cheers - Its amazing how quickly things disappear and equally how quickly you forget about them. Does anyone have any images of Smithford Way about ten years before then with Davies' Sports shop and the big chess set? |

Great post Tony, just how I remember those car parks on the roofs of the buildings. |

Anybody know what will be built in its place? Hopefully the wont build another tower block!
Well this is Coventry. They'll probably create another empty space filled with paving.
There's nothing wrong with tall buildings. It's just that one was placed in a particularly stupid place.

Not exactly sure where this view is supposed to be from but guessing this is looking from City Arcade:

Hi NeilsYard. Thank you for that, especially with the view of the market. |

This is a short (42 seconds) video, taken from my office, facing north(ish), on the 11th Floor of Coventry Point.
Hi Tony, great piece of video, I will keep it handy to look at again. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the video, what was it like to work on the 11th floor, I can imagine that it was quite exciting to have a office with a view! Did the building move in the wind? |

It was a bit strange getting used to the view, looking out over the city whilst taking a phone-call took a little getting used to. But once the novelty had worn off, you didn't really notice it. I quite enjoyed being "up in the air" though.
I don't remember the main tower feeling like it moved, although I vaguely recall feeling the "link" tremble a bit! There has always been a bit of a wind-tunnel effect around there. |

I worked in Coventry Point from 1983 to 1986 when the Contracts and Sales departments from GEC Stoke took over the 8th floor and 12th floor. I believe there were also a rather strange bunch from GEC Defence division on the 9th floor. It wasn't too bad a place to work at the time, very handy for the shops and well away from the restraints of an office based in a factory environment. Quite sad really when we all had to move back to Stoke Works. |

Hi, I just stumbled across this site today. I work in Coventry Point at the moment, in a video games company on the 14th floor. It's technically the 13th floor, but it was renamed at some point. The older lifts in the east tower are still labelled as 13.
I've only lived here 3 years but enjoyed looking at TonyS' video above, and other pictures on the site. It got me thinking that I'm rather well placed to make a record of the current view from Coventry Point before it's demolished (whenever that is).
I took a couple of photos from a south-facing window this afternoon. I think a cloudy day would be better for taking images though - better clarity and less window glare.
Click for massive versions of the images.
As for the building itself, I've grown quite attached to it. It could do without the messy roof thing over the street, and admittedly the heating, windows and insulation are laughably poor. I like the chunky look of it though. It's great working so close to Inspire and the Noodle Bar, too! |

Hi Craig, welcome to our forum
Thanks for the updated views! It would be great if you could get a shot over West Orchards too if you get chance.
I'll never forget my interview prior to working on the 11th floor. I was called to see one of the partners on a Saturday morning, about 10 o'clock if I recall correctly. Just over two hours later, after seemingly chatting about everything EXCEPT the job I was going for, I asked, rather tentatively - "when does the interview start?" - and the reply was - "you've already had it - how about starting Monday!"

Thanks for the welcome! Since our office occupies both towers I'll try and get a complete panorama. Will post them here when I've done it.

It certainly is - I try not to get complacent and stop appreciating it. On a good day we can see as far as the Rugby cement works. |
