The mention of the Courtaulds tramway siding is here. There are a series of maps that cover the area at the bottom of this page. The 1888 map doesn't quite extend far enough north, but shows lots of brick works though no tramway. The 1915 and 1926 do show buildings at the site though not identifiable as the cottages. The church was not built at these dates. There is a tramway marked on the 1926 map south of St Pauls Rd leading to Websters brick works.

mcsporran, yes that was the picture I was looking for, thank you. I would think the cottages belonged to the tramway co., probably tied cottages for tram staff. If I remember correctly St Paul's Rd. was a few yards from Courtaulds, in the old days many firms had their own cottages for senior staff.

Midland Red, you mentioned Shanks's timber yard, would that be Shanks the director of Coventry City Football club?

Yes, Kaga, Erle Shanks Thumbs up William Erle Shanks, who was owner of Shanks's Timber Yard, in Foleshill Road, was chairman of the club from 1952 to 1958. [courtesy: The Vocalist]
