Coventry City Council is responsible for more destruction of our beloved city than Hitler ever was!
For example look at the care they are carrying out of the old Grammar School in Hales Street - NONE! They are just waiting till it is beyond repair and cannot wait to pull it down! |

It's true the Grammar School needs attention - it's a lovely old building and needs saving |

Brilliant news about the funding for the Transport Museum to renovate the Old Grammar School and provide more facilities for the rest of us!
It's been so depressing to see that building being neglected over the years. |

Hello Anne,
Yes, it would be a shame to see it go at the cost of 'progress' but nice to know they will retain it and put it to good use. I remember (here I go again) when I used to hear the Salvos practicing their music in there, must have been sometime in the late 50's or there about.
Good to know someone has some common sense at last.
I did notice the link on Dutchman's posts and read about it, so that is good news.
Just to add to the above. I don't care how old a building is I am all for restoration. Coventry should always preserve its 'gems' I reckon.

Agreed this is good news - I've always been amazed at how neglected The Grammar School and Whitefriars have become. Its almost like they have been forgotten about. They are both so hemmed in by the new buildings around them. They should get rid of that awful row of "shops" between the school and the Transport Museum. Not quite sure they could do the same to the ring road by Whitefriars though but whoever allowed that to happen should have been dispatched down London Road and not allowed back IMO! |

Now that the area on the corner of Well Street/Corporation Street and Bishop Street has been cleared, it is now possible to achieve this slightly different view of The Old Grammar School from before - more face on to the front door!

"Redeveloped", that includes knocking down the Garibaldi Inn which has stood in Silver Street since at least 1868. That will leave yet another stone monument standing in total isolation with no historical context.

Why don't they just demolish the lot, they might as well, I suppose another eyesore will replace it close by, we might as well rename the town eyesore

That would be a huge mistake.
