Hi Gilly, We are a long way round the globe but it is nice to get some good news about the old place.
I will be keeping a close watch on the progress with great interest, and thank you Neil for the update.

This is not like the old Council that I have known for so long. They would have flattened it and put a bench and grass in, or even left it as an empty space. Well done for this new action. |

Thanks for the new info Neil. Looking at the photo on the link you posted it would make a grand banqueting hall for weddings.
Of course I am hoping it will be made more worthy than that. If I saw that on a postcard I would know it was Coventry straight away.
Thanks again. |

That's very good news about the transport museum - we take the kids there a lot, and it does need some work doing on it to keep it evolving and changing. I really wish they'd incorporated a larger conference centre into it rather than just built that empty space outside, a bit like Gaydon - Cov's museum is far better than Gaydon, as well.
Even better is the news about the grammar school. It's about time something was done with it. I just hope it's open to the public and made into something that us city folk will use.

When I was in my twenties I used to go inside the old Grammar School, they used to have like jumble sales inside or second hand clothes and bric a brac for sale for the charities. It's a shame it couldn't be reinstated to what it was as a tourist showpiece with perhaps selling things made in Coventry, handicrafts etc. |

Thank you Tricia, so do I hope it's accessible to all as its part of our history. When my 26 year old daughter heard about the old Council House being demolished she was furious, said she'll leave this town when I've gone, so I am pleased to hear the Grammar School is going to be saved. |

The old Council House is not going to be demolished morgana - they are just moving to the new Friargate development at the station. |

Neilsyard. I heard it on the radio by Anne Lucas, she said if I recall right a new build in the town when it's demolished as it's being sold to the university. |

The 'old' Council House is staying as the Council House - i.e. the debating chamber, etc. The council offices are all moving to a new building in Friargate - the University has apparently signed some of intent to buy the old Civic Centre to expand the 'Technocentre' into the city centre. |

The building in your first link Morgana is the Council House, that is staying and will remain in use by the council.
The buildings that are proposed for Cov Uni are the ones opposite the council house and known as "Civic Centre" buildings (each building is identified by a number)
Those shown in your second link are the new offices being planned for Friargate, where the council staff from the Civic Centre buildings will relocate.
I think any "redevelopment" referred to will be around the current Civic Centre buildings maybe to convert them for the Uni's use. |
