Now you see the problems we had in the fifties, about the Cathedral, Precinct bridge, etc and we did not have the internet to voice our disapproval.

Warrington has the opposite problem. We have almost zero town centre views to preserve but instead of building flats, they're carving their way through what little farm land we have left.

Heathite You need to find an old Farmer or Gardener, they measure the height of trees from the ground, did it myself as a youth, long forgotten.

That is brilliant, Pixrobin. One of those views that adds interest to a street scene. If I saw that from a street I'd want to explore and find it.

Really great, but now alas dwarfed by new student tower block!

Was that a pub directly outside the Church of St. John? I wonder what it was like inside and how many parishioners used it!

Even funnier, it was directly opposite the main door originally. There were many more pubs, inns and hotels within a short staggering distance.

Surely Helen the main door is at the south? The east window now is opposite. I know you wrote 'originally'?

Originally It must have been a tight corner with the steps and bollards, as you can see from this image that Anne posted. The current door is a modern addition.
