Sorry, Neil, I don't, but I would suspect it would be early 1960s

And another gem! The photographer is standing further south in Cheylesmore with his back to the Manor House. Thats the 'new' Hare & Squirrel to the right and the row to the left that was bulldozed to allow the creation of 'New' Union Street. Cow Lane goes straight on ahead. Cliff that's 'your' newsagents on the corner. IIRC there is an image somewhere with Cramp Engineering on the left if someone can find it? This is the same row.

You can see the same property as my one in the Archives post # 28 here through the opening of Cheylesmore Manor - gives you the location nicely.

Looking at these historic photos, they show us what old Coventry had which alas is now sadly diminished. Wonderful buildings, at almost every corner that was turned, to delight the eye and remind us what a long heritage is ours. Now all we can do is our utmost to prevent future loss and development of what still remains. A past that inspires but a hope for a future that will help us keep more of the valued past for those that come after us.

Cliff, you can see the same section here - even the same CAMP coffee ad, but looking the other way, east towards Little Park Street. The Umbrella Club building across the road. 1936.

I prefer this one of the same corner from Rob's excellent collection. Big grin The styling on the one above would be early to mid 1800s but there are similarities that suggest the brick version might be a skin on the old building. Forum library image

I'm not 100% sure but 'somebody' helpfully posted this Wink I think the Lecture Hall was the Baptists Chapel. If it is the same place, it's the building on the right at the back, located about halfway along the street on the north side.

In 1955 the block at number 39 Cow Lane, that included the chapel, the directory says City of Coventry, Libraries and Museum Department. That sounds like it might have had a record section. Thumbs up I keep forgetting to thank Heathite for the generous donation of his directories - which I will pass on the next time I meet up with the gang, if not sooner. On the to do list.

I also remember going to the Record Library in Cow Lane, as a child with my parent in the early 1950s. They were then of course the large bakelite records. A high wooden counter, little cardboard envelopes to keep the record ticket safely until its return. Our record player was a wind-up job!
