Anjou Street

Wonder if anyone can help. On my great great grandparents wedding certificate, her residential address was given at Anjou Street for which I can find no record. His address was Spon Street, and it has been suggested that the courts in this area had 'pet names' given by their residents. However, if this was so it would surely have been Anjou Court not Street. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi graham, welcome to the forum. Sorry but I don't know of an Anjou Street, although Margaret of Anjou is very relevant to Coventry. I've looked at the 1850 map and there is no Anjou Court although they did have names for the courts, often after the business that fronted the Street, so it could change quite quickly I suppose. I've looked for Anjou in the Coventry directories I have access to but not found Anjou in any street. Sorry I can't help but maybe there's something in the newspapers?

Graham, could it be that the street name is unclear on the certificate. If one of the addresses is Spon Street possibly both parties lived in the same neighbourhood. The closest that I can see for a similarity is Albion Street, two streets away

Might be a red herring, but Google Earth says the nearest "Anjou" of any sort to Coventry - at least in the present day - is Anjou Court in New Duston, a NW suburb of Northampton. The houses are relatively new, so more than likely a red herring. Worth a try maybe though.
