In the sixties early seventies, on the corner of Raglan street and Vine Street was a little grocery shop which was owned by Mr Bayliss, a tall man with brown storeman coat like in 'Open all Hours' comedy. He was very friendly, to old and young, and the shop was full to bursting, veg out front and small bags of coal by the door. I lived at 15 Lower Ford street, so I ran errand for mum and neighbours, so I was in there loads, also Mrs Swains sweet shop a few doors down. Lovely memories.

Hello coopers70, You lived dead opposite to me in Lower Ford St, we were at number 30. In 1959 we moved to 13 Raglan St, the shop next door to Swains. I used to buy my ice-cream from Swains as our shop had no freezer, no room for one. Every inch of space was taken up, floor to ceiling, with anything you might buy but alas, no free ice-cream. Thumbs up

I've no idea scrutiny but this might help - Battle of Alma
The adjutant of the Grenadiers, Captain Higginson, described in his memoirs how his commander, Colonel Hood, noted the confused advance of the Fusilier Brigade as it attacked the Russian Battery and determined to keep his battalion under strict control.
and this - Dictionary of National Biography - Francis Grosvenor Hood and this connection to Coventry - Viscount Hood of Whitley I followed the son to father links from Francis to that page and at the bottom of it there is a list of other Hoods in the family that shows the same names.

Thank you Helen, I do not know why I could not find that information back then. All the names are interconnected. Cheers Thumbs up

A lot has happened since 2014. Some things got better, some things worse (like losing Old Maps). We are truly in a data revolution.

Anyone got a ground level image of the Raglan Cycle Works? The spot was later the Glass works but I've never noted what a great building it was.
