Not strictly of Derby Lane as such but had to add this one which I've enlarged slightly as it includes a good view of that end property which was on Derby Lane in what must have been its later days, along with a good view along the side of the Library down towards St Michael's Avenue. Another great find from Cliff B!

Hi Neil I'm always ungrateful... if you could find that view before they built the library...?
This one was taken as they were demolishing that corner to build the Pru. There's a picture in the newspapers from that time, where I'd like to get hold of the original photo. In it you can see the innards of Pope's Head Lane. The newspaper copies are too grainy. |

There is one on Coventry Digital, which is from a 1938 CET showing the demolition to the gaol, Helen. There is one in a 1935 CET but as you say it is very grainy but perhaps Coventry Digital will come up with the original at some time. |

From a conversation elsewhere with Library people.
"Derby Lane Repository". Before being annexed for book storage the building was part (possibly a rebuilding) for the mirror image building of the Timothy White's building the other side of Holy Trinity.
Somewhere there is mention of a site in that area being used for the replacement of premises for the large shop that was previously on Earl Street, prior to the Council House.
I shall delve. |

Barely Derby Lane as it disappears being prepped for the 'new' Broadgate but you can see the road sign.

CliffB has given us another great capture of the end of Derby Lane (and the ruins of the Pru!)

Thanks, Neil. With higher resolution photos cropping up, details that were invisible before are now apparent. Including extra legs. |

Here's an interesting clipping from the Telegraph. Not strictly Derby Lane as such though the 'Lane' I believe in period followed that line in front of the old Council canteen - the front of which is also rarely shown here. You can also see that old Well on Broadgate which they uncovered. I wonder when that last tall building went (the one that was newer than it appeared) ?
