There are some half decent aerial photos from the back and side and one fuzzy image from the front in Britain From Above (down until June, sorry). I think that there was a Bunney picture of it in the book of his paintings - I don't know where my copy is at the moment or I'd check. It seems odd that there's no photo of it but I can't recall seeing one. But yes, it did have barley twist door posts. Bunney probably even did a close up as I know he captured several others of interest.

Great picture Dutchman and there is a back view of Lynes store, if only we could see the front of it!

Thank you Helen F, in June I will look for Wycombe Hall in Britain from Above.

I finally got round to digging out the book and yes, Bunney did paint a picture of the building and a close up of the door. Copies of the book pop up fairly regularly at a wide range of prices so shop around.

I think this has been on before but could not locate on the forum - demolition of Well Street looking from Corporation Street where the Telegraph offices would go up over to the junction with Bond Street.

I think that Wycombe Hall is the building in the top left quadrant with BIBLE written on the side.

That's right, Helen F, it is Wycombe Hall where my friend at school attended.

I posted this one in the Sunday Schools thread not long ago without being sure as to where it was - I now think I may have found it. I did note the Well Street banners - I think this is Chapel Street on an Easter Sunday School parade. As per Helen's comments earlier in this thread, Chapel Street had both a Sunday School and Well Street Congregational Chapel in it. I think that may just be the chapel to the left. I identified from this one - this is looking south on probably the same day, the chapel out of sight to the left, looking south with Well Street junction in the background - and dated nicely for us. The same banners in both photos. Note the 'Chapel St Mews' ad on the wall upper right.

While we are on the subject of circuses, I came across this ad from 1838

I think that you're right Neil and the pictures are of Chapel Street but I'm not sure that the second picture is looking south. I skipped over Chapel Street but I don't recognise the bit of Well Street. That said, it's a point in time with few images and the south side of Well Street was being rebuilt in brick, removing some magnificent half timber buildings.

Chapel Street Mews was on the right-hand side of Chapel Street looking from Well Street, so Helen, you would be correct to say the image is not looking south Thumbs up At the end, facing, are buildings in Lamb Street

Have you seen this one, Helen? Big grin Well Street looking west outside The Old Wagon and Horses pub at no.7. It's been colour-tinted but a great shot. Thanks to Tony Lay and Sylvia Grubb on FB.

Big grin I have the black and white version and have asked politely if they'd move out of the way but alas they wouldn't budge.
