Now that is an outstanding picture Prof and one I've never seen before. It shows the street from the east, looking towards the west, while still being demolished to make way for the Council House. The building just the right is the same as the one to the right of this one.

A doctor took a furnished apartment at a tradesman's establishment in Earl Street, and commenced business in a very humble way, but business progressed - soon he had a good sized practice. But he liked plum pie, He bought a dozen plums, and desired the landlady to make him a pie, but after dinner he complained there were only eleven stones, and told the landlady to take more care in the future. Next week he again bought a dozen plums and asked for a pie. The landlady, stung by his remark, with her assistants ate half of the plums but put the stones with the remainder of the fruit into the pie, and asked if he had enjoyed the pie. He replied that he had, for counting the stones he found that all the stones were there.

I know we have a dedicated Little Palace Yard thread with my family connection on LPS however not one for Palace Yard so adding here. I'd not seen this view before. I have already mentioned there are no photos that I know of showing the view of the Yard from the front on Earl Street. However, thanks to Sue Wilson on FB - she bought this slide from eBay which shows an unusual view looking north. You can see over the road to the Council House. I have been trying to match up the exact spot but it appears the road has changed level from today looking at what we can see here.

Basically the photographer is standing behind the posts you can see here taken from the archway on to the road.

I would have thought so, Dream, yes but it was probably a well-trodden courtyard given its age. Sue's comments were interesting on the slide - My grandfathers business The Graphic Press was in the last building on the left near the entrance into Earl Street. It was on two floors - until the Blitz!!! I'll check my records but I'm pretty sure on the Graphic Press notes the address is 1 Earl Street although the entrance to the premises was the last door on the left in the photo Heathite - is there anything to reference this in the directories, if you wouldn't mind?
