That looks like the church that used to be on the corner, opposite the Cov Tech. It was there in the seventies, maybe even later. My father told me that my grandfather, who lived in Broomfield Road, used to stop, get out his handkerchief, and have a sneezing fit every time he walked past. He used to curse "bloody churchyard!", blaming the flowers therein for his hay fever.

This is a lovely photo of my great grandmother at 29 Butts. Please can somebody tell me if it, or any of the houses like it, are still there. Thank you

Hi Janeyb, any idea of the date of the photograph with your great-grandmother in the doorway? Here's a little information about 29 Butts from Coventry directories. 1874 - John Bickley, a watch finisher 1886 - S Bickley, a shopkeeper 1912 - George Sewell, a watchmaker 1926 - G Sewell, a florist 1935 - non-extant. Hallo Heathite She was called Sarah Tatlow and was a widow in the 1901 census, living there with 2 of her daughters (one of whom married Sir "Harry" Harley). Sarah died in 1910 at Croft Road. T Thumbs up hanks

Thanks Dutchman, what a shame, they look such lovely houses. Are there any left? (Sorry if that's a stupid question but it's hard when you're not local and only have the help of maps and Google Streetview.) I can't tell you what a help this forum is, so thank you. Janeyb

Does anyone know where the name 'Butts' originates from?

It was the name given to an archery practice field although in this case it may have been for firearms. It's full name is Summerlands Butts Lane.
