Another brilliant image from Anne Hewitt on FB - the very southern end of Lower Ford Street looking north in 1966. The Austin is just about to turn left in to Far Gosford St. Anyone know what the factory was in the centre? That very small row behind the chap's head is still there - you can just see The Spittlemoor Pub as the road disappears in the distance on the corner of Hood St.

The car to the left of the Austin 1100 Estate is a Ford Cortina mark 3 model which was introduced in October 1970. This would put the photograph a few years after 1966.

B.T.H. were known for electric motors, generators etc, usually large ones I believe but what exactly was made in Coventry I don't know as there was a lot of diversity in their products.

Being in Coventry they were well placed to supply magnetos to the car and motorcycle manufacturers.

Anne came up with one last cracker although it was the end of the film. It's actually taken from Godiva Street but looking at LFS. The Beetle is parked at the entrance to All Saints Lane. The building with the Pepsi sign is I think the old K2 restaurant that is still here today!

Can anyone pinpoint the year of both pictures? In pic one, it is one way towards Far Gosford St, pic two it is one way towards Lower Ford St. Also, very disconcerting to me, All Saints Lane on that section was undriveable - if you drove along it was from South St or Paynes Lane. If you walked up from LFS it was like a very narrow cinder track until you got to the crossroad at the end of the BTH. Turn right and you went along a cobbled single road which led under an archway into Far Gosford St. Turn left and a two lane road took you up to South St (I think that piece of road is still used from the traffic lights on Sky Blue Way). If you went straight on, again a cindered single track which led up to where it joins South St from the left. Did the council open up All Saints Lane because of building Sky Blue Way? Also on the crossroad, one corner had a pile of sand on it which we used to play in, on the opposite corner was a firm who made fireplaces who used the sand. Nice people worked there, they only gave us a wave and never told us to get lost, just left us to play. Smile

Hi Scrutiny, Don't know off the year pics were taken, but they do look like they were taken at the same time, but I do remember the archway that led onto Far Gosford St, on the right as you passed through it (from All Saints Lane) was Garners Pie Shop, with its delicious aroma of pies baking. The Fireplace manufacturer I think was Townsends.

The photos came from a lady called Anne Hewitt on FB as her grandparents lived at 135 LFS. She listed them as being 1966 but as has been stated some of the cars are later so believe early 70's? I added some good photos of All Saints Lane here - as mentioned it was not suitable for cars which can be seen. I think the council only left the stretch of All Saints Lane at the back of Oxford Street in when Sky Blue Way was built as it was the only way those properties could gain access to their rear.

That end of Lower Ford Street became one-way from the 8th December 1969.

Thanks to all for that info. I left Cov in January 1969, did not come back until everything had changed and that section of All Saints Lane had vanished so the date 8th Dec ties in well. Cheers to all
