Eye-sore it earlier today, and it gave me an idea, no offence meant.

Pre-eyesore, mostly.

Cov Girl, whereas the Opera House was in Hales Street, near to Matterson, Huxley and Watson (the building with the plough on top) the Rex cinema in Corporation Street was the one where "Gone with the Wind" was showing and was destroyed by bombing, though no people were in the cinema at the time. This was well known in Coventry.

Judging a building before its finished? Have you seen the overall plan for that area? It's pretty good and will be a huge benefit to the city centre, and the block going up is a good landmark building.

That's my personal feeling on it. I think it is worse than something such as Ikea because the location makes it more visually intrusive. From being in Hales Street where feels like a concrete canyon to anywhere uphill to Broadgate, especially sitting on Butcher Row and seeing a nice clear area of sky now constipated by The Eyesore. Even into Broadgate it can still be seen, as in this picture from the front of Cathedral Lanes. It can even still be seen (luckily only slightly) when standing in the top of Hertford Street next to Lady Godiva News. I wish there had been planning rules that nothing could be built higher than the original Hales Street buildings, but the city centre now feels like the council's money tree manured by student rents.

If you think it's worse than Ikea there is little point in attempting a rational discussion with you, especially with your obnoxious attitude towards students and statements of fact as if your opinion is the only one that counts. Hardly a 'concrete corridor'. Thankfully, you're not on the planning committee.

I think that's really insulting. I have got nothing against students whatsoever. I don't know how something someone else did can be equated to being their fault. And I specifically said "my personal feeling" and "I think" so as not to be claiming it as fact.

I would have to agree. It seems that for some people anything new is automatically horrible and, conversely anything from the past is wonderful. It's a wonder anything ever gets built with attitudes like that, and is also no doubt the reason that many eyesores are kept just because they are old.
