Thanks Helen - that's one of my favourite BFA slides (despite the damage). BTW apologies if I've asked about this one before but does anyone know what this building was originally? Its on that BFA slide as well and lasted in to the later 70's.......

We wrote about it earlier butting up to the wall of the Little Palace Yard but we didn't identify it, I don't think. It was at the end of the yard on Earl Street that housed the Technical Institute, so maybe it was part of the Poly? |

Another new one to me thanks to Gray Foster on FB - the Police Station going up in 1956. Note Middlemore's to the left -

Nice one Neil. It helps a lot to be able to link the past with the present. I could walk the old city blindfolded but I still struggle with relating the old and new. |

I love that the guy second from the right appears to be whistling.

You might be right. The car seems to have a shadow on the left which would mean the sun was in the west. |

Dutchman posted this view way back in post #11 but this seems to be a fuller/wider view - it's looking south -

People might have seen this version of the King's Head at the end of Little Park Street.
But the previous version looked like this. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a timber framed building beneath the brick.

It was being sold in 1828 and described as an old established public house so it would be dated some time before that.

Thanks Anne. The South Prospect of Coventry from the 1730s looks like there was a suitably shaped building right next to the decaying gatehouse. Maybe too close for it to predate the wall demolition but...

Does the sign over the premises next to the Citizens Advice Bureau, say Deacon, can any one see better than me. The family history I'm doing at the moment has someone working for D Deacon, Decorators, 96, Little Park Street.
