The newspapers show the Manchester Order of Oddfellows holding their meetings at 7 Little Park Street. It is still there, it is a listed building and is now a pub called The Castle Grounds, the name may have changed since the Google article I got that from. There is a picture on post 331 on this topic. |

CliffB posted the rebuilt pub in post #309, but not sure we've posted the original before.
That's a super old photo, Neil - do you know who it belongs to? |

Hi Rob No, sorry, although CliffB posted it originally so I'll ask him if he knows. |

It's the same handwriting as that on the picture Neil posted of the Cross Keys on Earl Street. |

Yes, I had noticed that, Helen. I wonder if there is a key book I'm missing! |

Did we ever confirm when Bridgeman's House went and why, Helen?
The only thing I could find in the newspaper is that in 1821 it was bought by the Church and turned into a school for 180 children. |

Mark Foster on the Visit Historic Coventry FB page allowed me to post this, sketched by his 2x great grandfather. I think it ties up with the image in post #166.

Double yummy. That building on the right is the Ladies Seminary. The building on the left behind the pump is the first hospital on the corner of St John's Street, looking SSW, with the park beyond.
After the fancy timber building in the middle, the buildings below started. That fancy timber building, the seminary and others to the north were demolished to build the factory.

For clarity, this is the same side of LPS as the sketch but the north end, near Kirby House. The Registry office is on the left of the picture.

Ben has this well known view of the LPS and Cow Lane junction on Coventry Digital.
However another post on the Visit Historic Coventry FB page (source/credit unlabelled/unknown) of the same view is worth posting as it really shows the state of those buildings at that time - sadly.

Hi Neil. The second shot is from a printed source and some of the bends are on the paper, not the real building. It will exist somewhere at Digital Coventry. However it was in a poor state and was clearly due for demolition, though I'm not sure if it had been replaced by the war. Coventry had a massive slum clearance project in the first half of the 20th century. Some of it is documented in those Board of Health pamphlets you put me onto. There's a game to be played trying to guess if a building in a photograph vanished because of the Hun or the Health Board. Or Pre War, Mid War, Post War? |

Another great shot thanks to Nicola Smith on FB and from the M.Toms collection - The Warwickshire Appointments Agency was at No.106 according to the 1957 Directory -

Looks like they saved that lovely wall light and moved it over slightly Fred/Robs Pub section say The George closed in 1934 - was the building a casualty of the Blitz? I'm going to ask Nicola about this collection of M.Tom's - some great unusual views coming out........... |

It was still standing in 1946 but there are holes where windows should have been BFA So potentially it was reusable and stood empty while they decided what was going to happen to the area? |
