But there aren't any buildings "on LPS opposite" in the photo, Neil! |

It must be a trick of the eye Cliff - I thought those hoardings/buildings were over the road. |

Yes, Neil - I see what you mean. If you look at the image on post #70, it shows the building next door, to which the hoardings in yours are attached |

In the 1970 photo, Kirby House is set back from the road and if I remember correctly during the 1960's it had original iron railings and an overgrown garden in front. How come in the other photo it is now at street level with the 'Castle' and other buildings? Question |

A very brief film but worth seeing for the Registry Office and the like that was still there in '66 -
I think that's the Ribbon Factory at 0:14 that Dutchman mentioned earlier in this thread |

88 Little Park Street was the home of Katherine Bayley who was the founder of the Katherine Bayley School (Blue Gift School) in 1723. Up to the mid 1800s the school itself was situated near Drapers' Hall in Bayley Lane before moving to Little Park Street until 1889 when it merged into Bablake School. I found a wonderful document whilst researching my Great Great Grandfather who as a tailor made the school uniforms.
Extract from a document entitled "NUISANCES Notice of Entry for Examination"
".....stating that in or upon the said premises there are some offensive privies and cesspools which require abatement and removal and the construction of water closets"
Dated 9 December 1857 Malvern

I love these black and white pics, very dramatic and seem to depict the times they were taken. Thanks Neil for sharing. |

Rare image of the bottom of Little Park Street looking towards the centre. St John's Street corner is on the right. You can see the bones of a medieval building against the burnt out factory wall. It's from ebay, so grab it while you can.

I wonder if the factory was Bushills? I know my mother described walking down Little Park Street, back home, the morning after the raid, to Little Palace Yard and seeing all the devastation and wondering what they would find when they reached home. Unimaginable. |
