You're not kidding. I went, hoping to be able to see the Jacobean bones of the building. It was still a nice tour but all the old building structure was long gone. |

Interesting image from above showing LPS post-war but pre-ring road. You can really see how much narrower it was and the access roads in before the RR went up. Also Little Palace Yard.

That is an interesting photo Neil, especially as it is an almost identical view to an earlier one. You can see how they straightened the road, ironing out the kink just after Cow Lane. |

Hi Neil
Is that latest photo of LPS one from Britain from Above? If so can you tell me the number of it so that I can zoom in please. I can clearly see LPY and the lilac tree! The devastation is so clearly visible in that area. |

Hi Rosemary I don't think it is - at least I could not see it there. It was shared on one of the Coventry Facebook pages. If you press your right hand mouse button on the image and select 'Open image in a new tab', you will then be able to zoom in slighty on that newly opened picture. |

Or CTRL + to zoom and CTRL - to zoom out. Or right click, copy and then past into something you can zoom into eg Powerpoint.
If it's just that area you want, there is an almost identical view, just a bit earlier. There are quite a few from after the war.

Thanks Neil. I would think that photo was taken mid-late 1950s by the cars, and the interior of the cathedral has been cleared. |

Superb image of Little Park Street which someone has posted to one of the Coventry FB pages - I think it's been lifted from David McGrory's Century of Coventry book.
I'd not seen those very early houses before between what was the Registry Office and what I think is Kirby House further down.
It again really shows how much narrower LPS was. |

The Georgian building is the Castle I think - surely it used to have another name? Kirby House would be behind the camera to the left, beyond the registry office. The two storey building in the distance became the Coventry Building Society at some point.
It's very confusing having two very similar buildings so close together, 3 if you count Bridgeman's and I think that there were two more beyond that. |

Thanks Helen (again!) - of course - I never realised how similar in appearance that building is to Kirby.

Thanks to Debbie Dean Nelson on one of the Coventry FB pages - very interested to see this one of Kirby House. I think the date may be wrong as there's earlier images of Kirby House without the buildings on LPS opposite which is what caught my eye. Looking at this I think we were lucky it survived!
