I agree Annewiggy, the spire on the left is clearly Holy Trinity and the one on the right St Michael's.

Here's a photo poser. Most will know where it is. I'm posting it out of incredulity, it literally is 'a hole in the wall'. We've all heard of or used that phrase but here is an example, probably not to be repeated.

I would guess that is the old Post Office in Hertford Street?

Order order! Dr Edith Summerskill , Fulham West 12:00 am, 10th February 1947 The right hon. Gentleman the Member for Southport (Mr. R. S. Hudson) very courteously came to me the day before yesterday, and said he would raise this matter. Therefore, I was anxious to explain to hon. Members who heard my first statement, that since I made that statement, the town clerk of Coventry has made a further communication to us to the contrary. I will deal with Coventry now, because it was on the Clause dealing with compulsory purchase that the right hon. Member for Southport brought up this matter. Hon. Members of the Committee will remember that I was told a certain injustice had occurred in Coventry, owing to compulsory acquisition of land. I feel you might rule me out of Order, Mr. Deputy-Speaker, in this matter, and perhaps it is not proper to discuss the domestic matters of Coventry city council. But the Chairman of the Committee gave me an opportunity to make a statement after Clause 4 was dealt with, and I think I ought to amplify it at this point, because I understand that the matter is to be raised later on. Hon. Members will remember that I said the town clerk had told me that the "Geisha" cafe was on a site which was to be compulsorily acquired. The hon. Member for Mid-Bedford (Mr. Lennox-Boyd) has just said that the owner of the "Geisha" cafe had not been offered an alternative site. I understand that powers are embodied in the Town and Country Planning Act, 1944, which compel a local authority to offer an alternative site. If I am wrong hon. Members will dissent, but I think I am right. Although the owner of the cafe may not yet have settled on a site, I understand that powers are there, and he will be given one. Hon. Members will agree that the powers which have been exercised at Coventry under the Town and Country Planning Act have no relevance to this Bill at all.

Nice picture. Another "why did they destroy it?" Great looking building, nothing distinctive around that location now, that comes to mind. Was is it approx. where the computer games shop was, I don't know the exact spot?

Hi, I don't know the exact spot either, perhaps Dutchman can throw light on it? According to the 1935 directory and working back from the 'Peeping Tom', which I think we can take as the corner to the Bull Yard. Going back up the hill, 44 was the Peeping Tom, 43 was Thomas M Freeman a confectioner. 42 was A Hindman a confectioner and tobacconist, 41 - Charles Sheldon a butcher, 40 - E Lomas a fruiterer, 40 - S J Clarke a dentist, 40 - Remington Typewriter Co Ltd., 39 - V Grove "Kenilworth Castle", and then 38 A T Hampton, Geisha Cafe. 37 was Miss G Barratt a fruiterer. these are all going up hill on the left back to Broadgate.

Good list. I might have a go trying to find out where the location is. I got it (Geisha) to roughly where Virgin Money is. Not saying it's definitely right though.

I can't help with Hertford Street I'm afraid, it's mostly unknown territory since it was post 1650. The Geisha cafe lasted for quite a long time though and obviously expanded from its earliest photos.
