Whilst in Hertford Street today, I noticed this reminder of changing times
I take it they make their own birds nest soup?

Oh dear, like going from one extreme to the other. Sorry MR, as much as I like a good Chinese meal I think the old PO deserves better!

An unusual post-war photo standing outside the ruins of the Kings Head looking along Hertford Street. Can anyone make out what the structure is behind the chap with the bicycle - bus stop?

Is it a police phone box of metal rather than a walk-in design? On second thoughts is it the pillar with the City coat of arms on it, that Princess Elizabeth unveiled to mark the start of the building the Precinct?
This was I think incorporated into the left hand building of the Precinct, Broadgate House from standpoint with back to Broadgate. The pole to the left of the 'pillar' in the photo of the Princess would be the Elephant pole which was there when the royal visit was made.

The section to the right is definitely part of a bus shelter as a blown up image shows 'Stoke Heath'. |

Mmmmm, well MR, could be the 50's as I see a cap is still in vogue and ladies are wearing hats, both I think may have been abandoned into the 60's. The shoes are obviously not stilettos. I also remember my mum wearing shoes like those. I am sitting here now waiting for someone to prove me wrong. The glazed bus stop windows would be a good clue, also the ladies hair styles - or could it be earlier still going by the lamp on the front of the gent's cycle. I did notice the Stoke Heath bus stop too.

My grandmother appears to be wearing the same shoes when she married my step grandad in 1941
