Really interesting view of what made it through the blitz - taken I think from the Cathedral tower.

Thanks to Roger Copeland - is this looking over to Much Park Street? I thought at first it may have been the Philips and Marriot Brewery building disappearing but possibly too far north for that?

LOL could be. It's not in my era so if I ever knew then I've deleted it. I think it's on that block between Corporation Street and West Orchard. |

Hello everyone
I am looking for old pupils or stories from my old school St Michael's. The school was on Much Park Street and is no longer there. I remember one teacher I believe was called Mrs Riley and the old headmistress Mrs Allen who lived at the bottom of Paradise Street.
The only pupil I remember from my class is a lady called Jean Young.
I would love to see any pictures and hear your stories.
I attended in 1947 to 1953 but any pictures and stories are welcome.

Hello Kathleen.
Cookie here! Not really able to help you on this query as my mum and her family, who actually lived in Much Park Street and attended St Michael's School, were all there many years before you. Probably in the 1900's. I didn't realise it was still a school in the 1950's! I do remember it being demolished to make way for the ring road though, as my mum had a good cry when she saw the remains of it. Good luck in your quest for answers.

Tweet from the Herbert showing picture of a rare view:
Painted in the 60s, this view didn't last much longer. It looks at the back of the Old Mitre and a stone archway to the south of it on Much Park Street. To the left, some of what remained of the buildings on Star Yard. The building on the far side of the archway was next to the three story half timbered building that now stands on Spon Street. One for Kaga, it shows the last blacksmith's shop in city. |

Sorry Neil but I haven't a clue. I'm not even sure how old those buildings on the right are. |

Thanks to the Historic England Site - don't think I've see such a clear image of the old Phillips & Marriott Brewery - including the tower - than this one even if its in its final days here in 1968.
