D-Di asked "I am intrigued to know how you feel so acquainted with the internal workings of our local authorities when living in the colonies."
Quite simple, we have this new-fangled communications system called the internet. I often read newspapers from different parts of this country and different parts of the world. I am a regular reader of the newpaper published in Christchurch, New Zealand and my friend in New Zealand can read about what is going on in England on a national level and more locally the Accrington Observer. We've been able to do this for years. But, of course, we don't have our heads stuck in the school sandpit.

Because we have exactly the same issues here. What makes you think or believe that is different anywhere else, even the colonies? Only the name of the city and its location is different. When I called about the lack of lines on the approach to where I live, I got exactly the same answer as you would have got or still get in Coventry. In the meantime, no lines meant that there were many near miss head-on collisions. If enough people complain and can get enough publicity, eventually something has to get done.. |

There are some here who do not feel that I have any right to comment because I live elsewhere. They seem to believe that only Coventry or only the UK have issues on which they pass comment. They are wrong, but will probably never admit to it, and the little posse which jumps on me at every chance will not change reality. I have experience of Coventry and other places in the UK, places in Spain and Canada, and I can tell the posse here and now that all of those places have exactly the same issues. |

Well, I must be the lucky one. In the past 12 months I have had 24 dropped kerbs created in Accrington. How? I have engaged with the staff rather than being grumpy and complaining. I ALWAYS follow up with a thank you call after the job has been done. I have asked other mobility scooter and wheelchair users to phone up and get dropped kerbs to help their routes but the reply is always "Why bother, they wouldn't do anything about it." How wrong they are.
So, why am I planning to move to Coventry. Well at my current rate of success in Accrington it would take more than 10 years to sort out the dropped kerbs here. There are another 4 to do just on the route between the town centre and the local hospital.

Way to go, Pix.. (translation.. Well done, Pix old boy)..
So, are all of you looking forwards to the RR GP? It would be worth getting a passport and travel ticket back to the UK to that. Which junction will they use for pit access? Will the 40mph speed limit be in force for the race or will it be a heady 50mph? Will it be televised and put up on YouTube? |

I think a mobility scooter race would be much more in keeping with the ring road - certainly couldn't break the speed limit
