I've posted a similar comment on HCF before after reading and viewing images of other threads, I'll say again... I have no recollection of Queens Hotel in Hertford Street! When was it demolished? Where have I been since 1953?

I remember that sign as a kid. I couldn't understand it, so was constantly asking my parents to explain. I think it was set back off the street, and when later rebuilt became the Penny Black.

Why are babies' brick colours still considered to be modern or particularly interesting? More to the point, why do they need a world renowned artist (read expensive) to design multicoloured stripes?

Dreamtime, I think by that time watches were becoming standard for most people, so public clocks were less important. Now most people have phones, which is great until the battery goes flat.

(c) Coventry Archives. Hertford Street, when it was a proper street, pre-war. Note the Queens Hotel.

NeilsYard, Do you know the date of the Queens Hotel? Was it Victorian?
