I thought the banner looked like a bird in flight. Could it be a phoenix rising from the flames, the consecration of the Cathedral in May 1962?

Thanks for the photos Heathite. You can see how narrow, front to back, the original building was compared to the one still standing. It will be interesting what they can replace it with given the windows and services running on the exterior wall. I wonder if the owners are the same, making the party wall easier to deal with? |

According to planning application, retail/office unit to Hertford Street with 18 serviced apartments behind/above. There is an access corridor next to China Red so the windows will see air, if not light.

Referencing Anne's find back in post #123. Thanks to my friend Paul Michael Kennelly - a better image of the bombed out Midland Telegraph offices.

One of my favourite photos of Hertford Street, the Queens Hotel before its fancy porch was added. And Miss M McCarthy Milliners with its gorgeous glass arched doorway, how did they make that curved glass.

MR, never get sick of looking at your Coventry photo album, thanks for keeping them on. Myself and my wife can sit looking and talking about the places and changes that we've seen. Your photo above we would drive down there to get to Mile Lane coming from Radford. |

Rather surprised by this one. We've not captured a complete image of the post-war Queens Hotel card sign, however I wasn't expecting it to look like this! It's almost 1980's! Thanks to Tom Caren on FB.

I'm just surprised by the structure it's attached to. I always thought the card was simply attached to the hotel wall. Looks very modern for the era. |

There was a bit of an open space where it stood, and it was placed near the edge of the pavement, so as to be clearly seen from either direction, which it wouldn't have been on the building. |

Thanks Cliff - they must have modified it over the years as Prof's photo from earlier in this thread, reposted here, makes it look like it was on the wall.
