Brings back memories it does. I presume the Wat in the top photo is part of the sign for the famous (infamous?) Waters Wine Bar. I never went there myself (I was too young, see), but it had a reputation. One evening, my father and his cousin (the one from Brum who trialled for the Villa) thought they'd try the place for a beverage, and spied an aunt of mine from the distaff side. Allegedly, she was a regular, and liked to go there on the razzle with her girlfriends, on a Friday and/or Saturday evening. |

Thanks, MR and NY. At the back of my mind, I thought Waters was the other side of the bank. Looking more carefully, I can see that the window display looks more like trays of jewellery, not bottles of vino.
Anyway, my anecdote about Waters Wine Bar and my aunt's antics stills stands! |

Thinking a bit more, Walkers was alongside the passageway, through which I must have walked literally thousands of times over the years. |

You're quite right Slim. I bought my wife's engagement ring and later her wedding ring from Walkers in the passageway back in 1968. |

Could that be the Vicar Lane chapel if the photo taken from Smithford St, if Red Lion was in Vicar Lane or just an alleyway? If not the building at the back is in Smithford St? Somewhat out of focus of course. |

Another cracker! EDITED TO REFLECT ACCURACY.
It's the Red Lion Yard, looking south east up the yard towards the junction of Greyfriars Lane and Warwick Lane. The actual pub is in the distance with a gateway to the left.
The whole area from Hertford Street to Greyfriars became the Queen's Hotel. |

Prof, it took me a while to work out the Red Lion because the image is between maps.
Neil, yes please I'm endlessly amazed how many new images keep turning up. |

Sent Helen! You can actually make out the Red Lion sign on the right in a bigger zoom. |
