Thanks, Helen. Well it wasn't all wasted then. Interesting to read what a high percentage of it was used for. I wonder what happened to the large heavy garden roller which landed at the side of my father-in-law's garage during the blitz at 9 Dickens Road. It was still nestled there in 1961, the year I was married and my hubby has often said we could have done with that here when developing our own gardens. It came out of nowhere and they never did find the owner.

Just watched 'The Heart of Britain' on Talking Pictures. Some interesting footage of Coventry 1941. Apologies if it has been shown before. |

New one for me Anne While I recognised most of the views of bomb damage, I couldn't quite place all of them. |

New to me Anne too. What great footage. Pity a great many of our younger generations have not seen it, maybe they would appreciate their lifestyle now more. Watching all those in that footage show us the many who helped put that country back on her feet again. My great uncle worked in a foundry during the war years and seeing those in the video how hard they worked brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for stirring up memories Anne |

Great find Anne! Think that's the first time I've heard Mayoress Hyde speak! I wasn't aware until recently that she was killed in a motoring accident in Scotland in 1963. |

Neil, when my dad was a bus conductor just after the war, he told a lady that the bus was full and she could not get on. She said, "Young man, don't you know who I am?" and my dad replied "I don't care if you are Lord Mayor of Coventry, there is no more room on the bus". You can guess who it was!!

Good story, Anne, but would not have been Lord Mayor so soon after the war. Was Pearl Hyde the first? |

She was made Lord Mayor in 1957 so perhaps a little longer after the war than I thought. |

Can anyone pinpoint this one? I think it's the St Patrick's Road junction, but with where?

If it is St Patrick's Road, then it must be Manor Road. My other thought is that it's Stoney Road, viewed from inside Manor Road. |

It is in Stoney Road, not St Patrick's Road. Alan H
