Can anyone confirm when the Upper Precinct ramp was built? I think it was '83'ish but have been asked to confirm if members can help? |

According to Council papers; Ernest Jones Jewellers have occupied the shop under the ramp from 8th January 1982.
The planning application was approved on 28th March 1979. |

I am pretty sure that when it opened the shop under the ramp was branded 'Zales Jewellery'.
'Zales' and 'Ernest Jones' are both brand names owned by Signet Jewellers (that itself was formerly known as Ratners). |

It was Zales when it first opened.
Someone I knew at the time was working for the Council Planning Department, and he told me that the shop had the highest rateable value per square metre in Coventry - probably the reason why the development was allowed to happen.
Signet Jewellers do own a company called the Zale Corporation, an American company, but this was not acquired until 2014.
My internet research has failed to find out who the original Zales were - I just know that they were not the American Zales. |

I recently got this picture, I don't recall seeing it before, I hope it hasn't been posted here numerous times.

More good videoing BrotherJoybert but could you warn a person about the noise Almost blew me off the settee.
It does look interesting. Those bunds aren't just for the saved mosaic and now make sense of why they did it. Will this redesign of the floor space of the Precinct last longer than the others? It's had trees, grass, paving slabs and block paving. |

Thanks Helen *Hopefully* once they have finished they will stick with it and not alter it again for a long time. It's shaping up nicely but as you say it has had many of the 'new' features in previous times which were then removed. Fingers crossed all the water features will work properly, they are what I'm looking forward to most. |
