Yes Slim, most of my customers used cocoa tin tops, or the tins themselves. and most people hated that type of milk. It was a bad as the depth charges (saccharin).

Hi Slim and thank you for your recent post about sterilised milk - that has brought back some memories. Back in the late sixties, as a large family, we would from time to time 'run out' of milk. My mum would say "pop next door and see if we can borrow a pint". The neighbours only had sterilised milk and you're right - it did taste vile. I always remember that their kitchen smelled of Camp Coffee and I often wondered if they drank it to disguise the taste of the milk. We also used to "borrow" newspapers from them which we used for lighting our open fires. The family next door were unusual in that they were all adults, unmarried and still living at home. There were three brothers and a sister. The brothers all worked and the sister kept house. They were generous, caring and kind people.

Did you know that since we stopped having milk delivered everywhere, blue tits have forgotten how to do peck through lids to get the cream. They think parents passed it on to their fledglings, as we have had several generations who were not taught, they've forgotten how to do it. We'll have to see how long it is before they master opening Amazon packages.

Yes Slim, my aunt re-married in 1947 and wanted me to go for tea on Sunday. They had sterilised milk and I hated it in tea. With not many households with fridges in those days it was bought to keep longer and would not 'go off' in hot weather!

Ha! you remember the milk but not the saccharin and the tins of Carnation milk that stopped the birds, but then they only attacked the cardboard tops.
