Here's one, I cannot for the life of me remember how to do this. One cotton reel, four tacks equally spaced and knocked in on one end and then use it for knitting. How did we start? then knit? then cast off? Can anyone remember please? Roll eyes

I think we called it Corkwool scrutiny. We used to make miles of it, and mum would stitch it together in a circle to make placemats for the table.

Thanks all, sounds daft I know but I used to sit on an old arcade penny machine (the sort where you flipped the ball bearing round) on a bomb site in Read St when I came out of school, knitting. Big grin

I recall those machines and nothing wrong with a man knitting, my son used to knit all his kids' jumpers as his wife is disabled.

I used to french knit and finger knit, mainly woolly hats as that was all I could do (a couple of scarves as well). One of my brothers used to embroider but eventually he stopped because he got fed up of the odd looks he got on train journeys. Wasn't there a man who used to sit in Cathedral Lanes (when it had seats) and knit most days?

Yes, Old Lincolnian nothing wrong with that either, no man is looked down upon when weaving, sewing car seat covers, or sewing cloths in factories or even the tapestry that's in the cathedral, men worked on that too. Big grin

Well, scrutiny, you can start again, I've just ordered one from the Betterware for £3.99, for my 7 year old granddaughter for Christmas, you'll just have to find the old arcade penny machine now to sit on Lol Lol Lol

For scrutiny, Merry Christmas, just for you, remember these, only mine was a cotton reel with panel pins tapped into the top.

MR, they were the machines, but some of them still worked. Morgana, You had the same cotton reels as me but done a lot more with them. I have had, they only way I can say, a nice life. I am still here (alive). I value people and it is so nice to find on (Rob's) forum people who I value very much. I am not into forums but I find this one compulsive, thanks to Rob. Sounds a bit like a sob story now but to one and all, no names because I mean ALL, I LOOK FORWARD TO, NOT 2013, THE FUTURE OF ALL.
