Here's one for you bikers out there, where is it?

You got it straight away 20A, I didn't know it was called that, the sign has been there for yonks and still is

Think you`ll find it`s gone now. The motorcycle shop was run (a long time ago) by an old workmate of mine.

I remember George Wilson . They had a factory right next door to the Livingstone Road Baths.

Didn't they make Gas meters ?

They did, and still do at Alderman's Green Ind Est. I believe they also recondition central heating circulation pumps.

George Wilsons were actually opposite the swimming baths. Their factory at one time extended from the Foleshill Road end to where Pedleys, the caravan place was. But then a large part right opposite the Baths entrance was taken over by the City Council for many years. It had been used as the meter testing part, but became the Weights & Measures Department, where I worked in the 70s. It was perfect, and became one of the best equipped such places in Britain under the then Chief Inspector, Ieuan Stringer. Sadly it was sold off for political expediency around 1980. The service was run by the WMCC by then, and moved to a completely unsuitable rented place in Whitley Village.

Thanks for the correction, my recollection goes back about 60 years. So I think I can be forgiven.

Good to see the building still being used, albeit for a very different purpose

Seeing this thread reminded me of the MZ 250 I had back in the 80s. I acquired it as payment for a repair job I did for a mate of mine. If I remember rightly it had big thick alloy wheels and was "basic" to say the least. One of the more unusual characteristics was an engine speed clutch which led to very clunky gear changes. I did a quick refurb job (buying parts from from Mellors) on it and sold it to a member of the local constabulary for £80 which was a lot of money in those days. Not an exciting machine but OK for everyday transport.

This was very close to where a temporary shop called The Blouse Box was sited after the war, I wonder if there was any connection?
