That's Jill Hanson's shop on Market Way, Prof.
The shop in Hertford Street was A & F E Hanson Ltd, Music, Pianos, Theatre Bookings, at no.61 - they were Jill's grandfather and great uncle. That shop was later taken over by Jill's father, and it did sell gramophone records - I know 'cos I bought from there! |

Yes, piano's, and most families had one. We bought ours from Fennells, it had a label inside the lid of the piano stool, along with all the sheet music. When you had about twenty relatives sitting round singing on a cold winters night it brought the family together like the tele can never do.

Prof,
Wasn't Fennells piano shop next door to the Empire Cinema before the Blitz? |

Thank you, Heathite,
Hanson's, of course, slip of memory - wonder where Fennells shop was, nearer 1920 when mother bought her piano. |

He moved to the Lower Precinct in the 1960's Kaga, selling more than pianos by then. |

Kaga, the 1939 and 1940 Telephone DIrectories both list "John Fennell, Pianos, 158 Spon Street"
The Spon Street thread has several references to this shop
I see nothing to suggest they were in Hertford Street |

Just caught up with the other replies, Kaga
The 1927 Telephone Directory also lists them at 158 Spon Street |

I wonder if Spinadisc got the Fennells location? I can remember Spinadisc but not Fennells.
