Thanks for confirming that the corner shop sold electrical goods.
I never doubted that it was, at one time, an electrical shop - just queried that it was Comet!!! |

Thanks for reply MR.
Comet didn't occupy that shop for very long as they moved to a larger double fronted shop on corner of next street. Brooklin St or some similar name.
I know nothing more about the shop except that it became a chip shop about 1954.
I had left Coventry by that time as I was receiving training at the Coal Board workshops at Ansley Common two days a week and Newdigates for the rest of the week.

My wife insists in 63 there was an eng' factory on the corner of Matlock Road and she worked there as a secretary for a short time, so the tele shop must have been next door to the factory. I can't remember what was there. |

Kaga. Sorry but there never was an engineering factory corner of Matlock Rd. On the corner was chip shop with its own back garden then a couple of semi detached. Then came the engineering works.
On the other side was Courtaulds car park.
Take a look at the picture above. That factory extended right through to Brooklyn Rd. No idea what the set up is now.

Norman C, I believe you, the picture shows it, but hey I'm a coward so if my wife says it was on the corner, then it's on the corner, and I'm out of here on this one. |

I remember my eldest son going into that works when he had managed to escape from the back garden.
When recaptured I asked him what they had said to him in the factory, he replied that they had told him to "**** off". He was about three at the time.

So whereabouts in Coventry was this Lyons store in 1967:
"On This Day 19th June 1967"
Also if the picture was taken on 19th June 1967, why does it say 1970 on the bicycle?

That photo brings back memories, a Moulton 1970 was my first new bike. I can't recall it being badged as a Triang though. |
