1st Aug 1849 An Act of Parliament was passed, placing Coventry under the operation of the Public Health Act of 1848.

On 1st August 1973 Coventry Stadium hosted the Nordic-British Final of the FIM World Speedway Championship. The top eight riders qualified from this meeting for the European Final - they were: Anders Michanek 14, Ole Olsen 11, Ivan Mauger 11, Tommy Jansson 10, John Boulger 10, Peter Collins 9, Ray Wilson 9, Bernt Persson 9. Michanek was also victorious in the European Final, but this was the year of the underdog when Poland's Jerzy Szczakiel claimed the world title in Chorzow, defeating Mauger in a run-off.

4th Aug 1966 Coventry City chairman, Derrick Robins, pulls the first round at the newly renamed 'The Sky Blue' public house, formerly 'The Nugget Inn', Coundon.

On 5th August 1976 Ole Olsen won the Midland Riders Speedway Championship at Coventry Stadium, beating Swindon's Martin Ashby in a run-off after both had scored 13 points from their five rides. Coventry's Alan Molyneux took third place with 12 points. Olsen was in his first season as a Bees rider, and was retaining the title he had won in 1975 in the colours of Wolverhampton.

6th Aug 1750 The first regular stagecoach started running from Coventry to London. 6th Aug 1938 220,000 masks were issued by the ARP service in readiness for possible gas attacks in the probable coming war. Coventry was also divided into 6 ARP zones, with each of these being subdivided into between 12 and 20 sectors.
