I've since learned that the cafe opposite the Paris cinema which was once known as "The Jungle" was later called "La Tropicale", presumably to cash in the cinema's new Continental image.
Also, the cafe at the bottom of Far Gosford Street on the other side of Lower Ford Street from La Tropicale was called "The Cabin".

PiC - I really hope you meant to say BENDY sausages I remember those as being a bit like frankfurters. I liked the pancake parlour but especially the ice cold milk in that swirly machine.
I liked them even though I can't remember their proper names, Elaine. Correct me please but I think that the last Wimpy in Coventry was in Trinity St. That must have been twenty five years ago. |

It was in New Buildings Sally and my memory of it is very vague except that it was considered a great treat to be able dine there
It was very close to "Exchange and Mart" wasn't it? |

Moore's had another restaurant, too, didn't they? I think it was in Corporation St? I ate in there only once, and it was a rather disappointing meal, as I recall, which was why I (and my mother) didn't venture in there again. Certainly wasn't like the original in New Buildings! |

That doesn't mean anything to me, but I remember it from the photo. I think you walked into New Buildings and turned left, down the hill a bit. |

Keith, would the restaurant in Corporation Street be in what we called the old "Gas Showrooms". This was usually very busy with long queues inside. British Home Stores restaurant (ground floor level) was always busy too, but a good place to have lunchtime treats when I was young. |

I don't think it was that one; as I remember, Moore's had another restaurant was convenient for one of the theatres. It was quite big, and I can recall the inside, but not where it was sited. |

Apart from their most recent site - at the end of the City Arcade, the one immediately previous to that was just inside Fairfax Street |

I think that must have been the one - close to Pool Meadow, yes? I know we went there either before or after going to the theatre, and it would've been the Hippodrome not the Belgrade. (I didn't go to the Belgrade until after I married, so it couldn't have been that - I must have been about 12! ) |

Doubt that the Fairfax Street one fits in with your dates |

If you went to Fishy Moores when you were about 12 yrs old, it would have been New Buildings, as they were there until the late 60s |

I remember Fishy Moores in New Buildings I met my wife in town the day before we married and had lunch there, that was in 1967, then they moved to Fairfax St, then I remember they had a restaurant in the new Co-op in Queen Victoria Rd, then moved across the road to the end of City Arcade.

That sounds about right to me Bernie. Had many a good meal in the new buildings restaurant when I was a kid with my parents. I can vaguely remember them in Fairfax St, but after that I don't know as I left Coventry in 1969. |
