Santa bought me a Coventry book that I had not seen before. 'Leonides' by Roy Probert was published in 2011 and tells the story of the Alvis aero engine which was built on the Holyhead Road.

On 29th Dec 2012 12:48am, NeilsYard said: What interests me is that line the pedestrianised Precinct takes - a more north-easterly diagonal route than the original Smithford Street road layout......
I think you'll find that's more north-westerly NeilsYard? Smithford Street ran north-easterly towards the High Street. It's okay, I make that mistake all the time Smile Anyway, thanks for the recommendation as Amazon have just tried to sell me a copy Cheers

Just had an interesting book out of Bell Green Library. It is called `Coventry in the Fifties` and is written collected and compiled by John Hall. It gives a good flavour of the post war Coventry and quotes interesting Council notes about the redevelopment of the City Centre and covers local industrial relations, and a wide variety of subjects that give an overall picture of life in the city.

Sorry if this is too late for some, but if anyone has the chance to pop into town today, local author David McGrory will be doing a book-signing at Waterstones between 11am and 1pm for his latest book Coventry: Bloody History. I'm sure he'll appreciate any support from our membership. Thumbs up

I have just had an email from Amazon about a new book by local author Rosie Goodwin. Called "Home Front Girls", it's about three women who all start work at Owen Owen just as war is declared. As yet there are no reviews on the book, so I don't know how good it is.

A quick view of my ex-library copy I got cheap from eBay.... I think you'll enjoy it, it's a smashing little history book with a sprinkling of lovely old photos and images.
