Yes, Helen I think you are spot on. Looking back through the Broadgate posts, that is the one I would have picked. The post bombing pictures still have the white post! |

Just noticed the dodgy sign is on the white post in both pictures. Neil, a lot of thanks should go to you as well, a lot of the past pictures are your posts! |

Nice one, Helen. I was just looking at a better resolution copy of the pic and can see the sign is for an ARP Shelter as are the signs on the building. I wonder if the frontage on the original pic is a dummy shop front and, come the war, they built a shelter in there. That may explain why it looks like a building within a building in this one.

Hi Cliff, I can't tell if it had a cellar but assuming it did, it would have made a good location as they were still building as war broke out. Easy to change a planned shop front into an ARP entrance. Concrete basement and floors, plus a big steel framed building over the top. However it looks like the shop got severely hit so one wonders how good it was in the end. |

A great pic. as usual Prof. Must be a Saturday and awful having to dodge the trams. I hate to sound morbid but I wonder what the accident statistics were in those days.

There was a plan in the US when trams were first introduced to add a seat across the front so if one did hit you, you'd just become an unplanned passenger. |

There was a ladder kept in that part of Broadgate when some deaths took place. Well documented, I believe. |
