Hi all. It is common knowledge that D Di's had premises in Broad Street, also on Stoney Stanton Road. Did these two branches run at the same time, or were they at Broad St first, then SSR?

I remember D Di very well as van sales where I worked on one of them servicing the Stoke, Binley and the villages out towards Rugby. The guy who drove was a nutter, always chatting up the women, they used to bring out bowls to get filled up instead of cornets because they got more for their money. I think his name was Dennis, what a guy, but It was a good way to earn extra money, long days but fun. Mr D Di lived in St Paul's Road, He was a lovely man but a hard task master.

When I was a boy growing up in Nickson Road, Tile Hill, we only knew ice creams as D Di's.

When an ice cream van comes down our street, my wife and I always say here's the D Di man, our lads both in their early 20's wonder who we're on about. I also remember a Mr Frosty when I lived in Bulkington |

This thread brings back fond memories The D Di van used to come up Breach Oak Lane, Corley where we lived from '67 onwards. We only ever had enough money for the small cones, no juice, flakes or whatever but it was nice ice cream. |

Guess I'm the odd man out again, never had a D Di ice-cream, but I know they used to give one of the sons money to clear off to the races everyday, kind of get from under their feet, happened for a good many years. |

I remember John Wells, he worked alongside me for W. Mead plumbers, Foleshill Rd. Working nights and weekends for D Di, he had an insatiable thirst for large bottles of Lucozade, getting through at least one large bottle every day |

I grew up thinking that if D Di came down our street with the music playing it meant they were sold out of ice cream. Thanks Mum.

Does anyone know if the remaining members of the Di Mascio family are still around and contactable? I was told that my family married into their family a long time ago and I wondered if I could speak to an older member of the Di Mascio family to see if they knew about this. Thanks for your help.

In the early sixties living in the Hen Lane area of Coventry, the D Di Mascio ice cream van often came up our road. We kids always called an ice cream a 'D Di'. At one time the D Di man was giving away collectable cards with pictures of the current pop stars of the day on them. I remember getting Del Shannon on mine! |

Having read through this thread I now realise it probably should have been pronounced 'Dee Dee' rather than the 'Dee Dye' I always knew it as.
Ah well, another childhood reverie shattered.

Stumbled across this on another site recently so not my photo but very interesting. Early to mid fifties I would guess.
Very happy memories of the D-Di Ice Cream man calling in our street and my mum giving me a thrupenny bit for a cornet - happy days.
