Hi Slash1, My jukebox (also played regularly) holds 80 singles as well, mainly 60's early 70's when I thought music was real! Each to their own! Most jukeboxes used to hold 50 records, so is yours a 1970's Rock Ola like mine?

My jukebox is a NSM Prestige II, dates from the 70's I think. Do love it though, I always remember when I first had it, probably 20 years ago now, I didn't really realise that jukeboxes are really for commercial applications and if I wanted could blast the street out. Just looks like jukeboxes as I recall them looking, late 50's early 60's. Do get annoyed, if you say you have a jukebox, people assume it must be a Wurlitzer. I have books on jukeboxes and there were probably more than 10 manufacturers in their heyday. Do attend shows and the like, could easily be tempted to a real 50's style jukebox. Just love them all.

By the way, most of the records will have come from Coventry. Twisted

Yes Janey, I remember Jill Hanson's shop in Hertford St. I bought my first vinyl LP there, "Organ Concertos - J.S. Bach", but there were two in the set and I could only afford the first. I now have it all on CD!

Actually it was Haydn's Organ Concertos, not J.S. Bach as I wrote previously!!

I started buying 45rpm singles around 1961. There was a Shadows 1961 single in this bag which most likely was from this time.

I think it did have various owners at different times, but that wasn't the name I recall when I used to go in there during my early 80s apprentice days. Just to make sure we have the correct shop in mind - if you were to stand by the bird cage and face down the arcade towards Queen Victoria Road, the record shop was the first one on the left corner. It always seemed a bit dark and dingy in there!
That was Virgin Records by the birdcage, John Bradbury (later of the Specials) used to work there. I'd pester them asking for when the new Roxy album was going to be released (usually later than advertised in NME). I was always impatient to get the latest album.

The upstairs room above the Virgin Shop was Pete Waterman's newer version of 'Soul Hole' which had previously been in the cellar of the clothes shop 'I Am' on Hales Street. This is where he recorded 'Goodbyee' with the chorus provided by drinkers from the Climax pub next door! He appeared on 'TOTP' miming, wearing a WWI uniform and waving a couple of union flags, something he doesn't really want to be reminded about! Big grin

Thank you for confirming that. I had no idea back in those days that such famous names might've been upstairs while I was searching for old records. (I rarely bought the latest - back in the 80s I was just getting into stuff from the previous two decades, and bought a double "Best of The Move" album from that store.)
