Tricia, the pub was most definitely The Leopard. It was a favourite of your next-door neighbours in Coronation Road! Cheers

They were both really in Castle Street although the Leopard's postal address was Primrose Hill Street. The Elephant & Castle had already been demolished to make way for the tower blocks by the time that photo was taken. The Leopard followed it shortly afterwards.

An interesting view towards White Street and the Hillfields area thats been cleared as works starts on the Ring Road. You can see the concrete 'legs' going in.

Thanks Neil. I hadn't realised that they had built so many blocks of flats in that area. Are they still there or have they bulldozed them?

My dad's side of the family lived in Hillfields most of their lives. According to the 1841 census they lived in Dog Lane which became Leicester Street and later Swanswell Terrace. In the 1851 census they were in Victoria Street, in 1861 Queen's Street, in 1871 Brook Street, in 1881 Waterloo Street and in 1891 Lower Nelson Street. In 1901 they moved out to Thomas Street in Earlsdon but in 1911 moved back to Hillfields to Vauxhall Terrace which ran between Days Lane & East Street (circled in red on map). The 1911 street directory shows that my Grandparents (William & Florrie Oldham) lived at No1, his father (Walter Oldham) lived at No7 and her parents (John & Sarah Reddington) lived at No10. My family occupied 3 out of the ten dwellings in Vauxhall Terrace.

Hi everyone. I used to live in Ranby Road, Hillfields. I went to Freddies infants and juniors and had to go to Broad Heath School until Sidney Stringers was built. I used to love Primrose Hill Park, playing on the hill. I was called Linda Ashworth then. I remember the brownies and guides I was in and being in the choir at Saint Peter's Church. Father John Moses was the vicar then. I used to walk to town and often got soaked playing in the fountains. Wave
